Rosemary Clarkin died at her home in Peekskill on January 28, 2014 after a long illness. She was 82. Born on May 21, 1931 in the Bronx to Frank and Mary (Delahanty) Boucher, she was a wife, mother and educator. Mrs. Clarkin graduated from Cathedral High School in 1949 and St. John's University in 1953. On December 22, 1956 she married Vincent Clarkin at Holy Cross Church in the Bronx. Together they raised six children. She was a remedial reading teacher at Assumption School and was elected to the Peekskill Board of Education in 1983 where she served as its first female president. In 1988, she returned to the classroom and ended her teaching career at Hillcrest Elementary School in 1996. A communicant of Assumption Church, where she was the first female lector in addition to being a Eucharistic Minister, she was actively involved in the Christian Family Movement (CFM) and Assumption's Home School Association. She was a member of the initial English language Cursiello in New York and served as a retreat director and team member for numerous Curseillo weekends. She is survived by her husband Vincent of the home address and children Regina, of Peekskill, Gregory (Rani) of Fairfield, CT, Kevin (Jeannette) of Ridgefield, CT, Helene and Don Chaisson of Iowa City, IA; David, of California and Moira and Jai Evans of Washington DC. Along with her nine grandchildren; Desmond O'Leary; Arianna, Maia, Sophia, Matthew and Alex Clarkin; Benjamin, Amelia and Nicholas Evans, she is survived by her brother Francis Boucher of Washington DC. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Hospice Care in Westchester and Putnam 540 White Plains Rd, Suite 300, Tarrytown NY 10591. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday January 31, 2014 at 11:30 AM, at Assumption Church, Peekskill, followed by interment in Assumption Cemetery, Cortlandt Manor. Visiting on Thursday from 4 -8 PM, at Dorsey - Carlone Funeral Home 1100 Cortlandt St., Peekskill.
