September 7, 1934 - March 31, 2022
Anthony “Tony” Sablich, 87, of Cold Spring, NY passed away peacefully in his home on March 31, 2022. Tony was born in Freeport, NY to Dominick and Annette Sablich. He spent his childhood living on both Long Island and in Queens, NY, alongside his brother, Robert Sablich Senior. In 1961, Tony married his late wife, Cecilia, and moved to Ossining, NY where they raised their three daughters. Later in life, they moved to Cold Spring, NY where they enjoyed their retirement. Tony held a B.S in Civil Engineering from Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute and a Master of Business Administration degree from New York University. He proudly served with the United States Army from 1957 through 1963 and was stationed in Germany with the 190th Medical Detachment. Tony went on to have a fulfilling and successful career with IBM, spanning over 35 years, first as an architectural designer and civil engineer, and later as a manager with the North America and Latin America Real Estate, Environmental Affairs and Energy divisions. Throughout his life, Tony traveled the world – he always had an interesting story and experience to share. He loved learning about local cultures and sampling regional cuisines. Popham Beach, Maine was his “happy place” and he looked forward to his annual family summer vacation where he could be found at the beach casting his fishing rod in the surf. His loved ones will remember him as a kind, supportive, wise, devoted, generous and hardworking man who never hesitated to help his family and friends. He had a lifelong passion for fishing, and his personal interests included boating, carpentry, watching American History documentaries and rooting for the NY Yankees and Giants. He was an avid downhill skier and spent many weekends skiing with his family and friends throughout New England. Tony loved good food and red wine and especially enjoyed grilling outdoors and making homemade pizza. He enjoyed treating his family to dinner at his favorite restaurants, no matter the occasion, and loved to have the family dog, Annabell, by his side. Tony’s grandchildren were his pride and joy. He always planned fun adventures when he knew they were coming for a visit. His grandchildren will look back fondly on Sunday morning bagels, afternoons at playgrounds, trips to the apple orchard, going to see the Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall, and many family vacations on cruise ships and Cape Cod. Tony was predeceased by his loving wife, Cecilia, of 58 years and is survived by his three daughters; Valery Walters of Fishkill, NY, Janet Maroun (wife to Damian) of Madison, WI, and Catherine Lupinacci of Danbury, CT. He was the doting grandfather to Maxine, Luke, Kathrynn, Martina, Emily, and Sara and a soon to be great grandfather. A graveside service will be held on Monday, April 4th 2022 at 11:30 AM at Gate of Heaven Cemetery (10 W Stevens Ave, Hawthorne, NY 10532).
